Upcoming Events

September 10, 2008

A belated welcome to all incoming Graduate Students and welcome back to all of those returning!!!**  Below is a list of upcoming events.

  • Tues (9/16) @ 3:00: Graduate Workshop–”Concerning Theses Prospecti and Timelines”
  • Tues (9/23) @ 3:00: Graduate Workshop–”Adapting to Grad School”
  • Fri (9/26) @ 5:00-7:00 Graduate Student/Faculty Social @ Dr. Bennett’s Home (Pending Swift Recovery)
  • Wed (10/1): Book orders due Spring Semester (for those allowed to choose their own books)

Browse the website (some of the biographies are hilarious) and let me know if you don’t see something you expected to see, or if you see something you can’t understand the purpose of.  I’m happy to take suggestions for improving the AEGS blog/site.

Keep in mind, also, that if you are planning on applying to enter PhD programs in Fall 2009, application deadlines are coming VERY fast.  Talk to Dr. Bennett for advice on the particulars of application and how to sell yourself to that particular audience.

For those of us looking to publish or present a paper–I’d like to draw your attention to the UPenn link in the blogroll.  It is a pretty exhaustive list of possibilities, although there are oportunities it doesn’t cover.

Spring Meeting Times

November 16, 2007

I know it seems early, but I’d like to get a sense of when good AEGS meeting times would be for the spring semester so that more people can get involved.  Please email me days and times that are completely impossible and some that seem like reasonable possibilities.  It looks like Thursdays are already out for a couple people.  I haven’t checked teaching schedules with everyone, but I know some people have 8, 10, and 11 (MWF) classes.  One person has put in a vote for Mondays; some have said only mornings or only late afternoons.  While I’m sure we’ll never find a perfect time, I’d like to do the best we can.  Also, for TAs, if we can set up AEGS meeting times early, you can hopefully schedule Writing Center and Office Hours which won’t conflict (if you want to, that is).  So anyway, email me at arianajp@aol.com with any comments on meeting times or anything else you want to get off of your chest.

New Bat Time, Same Bat Place

September 21, 2007

AEGS has exciting projects in the works.  Come to the next meeting and give us your two cents.  We don’t bite.

THURSDAY 27 SEPTEMBER ***  4ish *** (after practicum, in the same conference room – how easy can it get?)

  • See how much fun getting arrested can be
  • Encouraging creative scholarship across disciplines – we are working on establishing an interdisciplinary journal here at MSU
  • Social events – not likely to be tea parties

Research Strategies Workshop

Also, don’t forget to respond to the email on research questions.  Then attend the next AEGS workshop to get the magical key to the library.

FRIDAY 28 SEPTEMBER 2:30-3:30 ** In the Heathcote Classroom in the basement of Renne Library (English majors belong in dungeons, don’t they?)
